Business owners have many things to do, and only a limited amount of time to do them. Like most people, they usually have spouses, children, and hobbies. Small business owners and startup owners are no different. If you are among them, time management is probably one of your biggest challenges. The report How CEOs Spend Their Time released by CEO.com includes a survey of 256 CEOs across industries and features a wealth of inspiring findings that can help you make the most of your time and become more like the top business leaders.

  • Wake up early — 80% of the CEOs surveyed in the study reported that they wake up at 6 a.m. or earlier.
  • Don’t oversleep — The report found that business leaders sleep on average 6.78 hours, with younger CEOs under 30 sleeping even less.
  • Don’t neglect your work in the weekend — Although the report found that CEOs tend to take a break from work in the weekend, they still invest an average of 2.4 hours on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Although business leaders devote their weekends to their families and hobbies, they remain connected to what’s going on in the business as well. Even if your business is closed in the weekend, you may still want to use cloud-based tools such as inventory control software, sales forecasting tools, or a task management solution to keep a tight control over your business from the comfort of your home.
  • Work out — Most CEOs work out every day, many of them in the morning, right after waking up. The study found that business leaders spend on average almost 1 hour every day working out. Working out isn’t only healthy for your body, but helps oxygenate your brain and reduce stress, which results in better business decisions.
  • Use social media — The report also found that business leaders spend on average almost 1 hour on social media, for both business and personal purposes.

Finally, remember that small business leaders today take advantage of tools such as inventory control software, sales data analytics, and forecasting solutions to automate routine tasks and gain time that they can spend on more important business tasks.
